These teachings, which have been tried and tested for thousands of years, are brought together with the latest mental wellness research. Understanding Your Brokenness
The spirituality of man is a thing-in-itself. It cannot be explained by something not spiritual; it is irreducible.
Viktor Frankl, psychiatrist, philosopher, author, and holocaust survivor.
In our increasingly materialistic and nihilistic western culture, we can feel like an outsider when we are 'broken'. Because we think we are odd and unproductive and want to 'fit in', we are inclined to pick up on society's ruthless insistence on constant positivity. We can then become enslaved to values that encourage us to live for ourselves and chase empty goals.
Sooner or later, though, the false dreams and narratives the world has given us will shatter. At the time, it's usually a harrowing experience and one we'd rather not go through. But, if we are brave and allow it to happen, the hard outer shell of our false selves break, releasing the life and light within.
We begin to realise that nothing is an accident, and the trials we undergo may be in our lives for a reason. We may even awaken to the essential and fascinating truth that we are souls having a human experience, not mechanical beings in a meaningless world without hope. It's then that we grow stronger, vital and more resilient than ever. Our life has a greater sense of purpose, and we are now on a path underpinned with truth, forbearance and meaningful healing we call it The Unbroken Way
Embracing Your Brokenness
There is a crack, a crack in everything That's how the light gets in.
From the song Anthem by Leonard Cohen
Kintsugi, the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together using lacquer and precious metal such as gold, is a powerful metaphor for brokenness and healing. The 400-year-old technique originated from the idea that instead of repairing a ceramic to appear 'new', you highlight the 'scars' as part of the design. The lesson for us is that when we embrace our brokenness, we can become more than we were before, reflecting a unique, beautiful, and resilient life.
